Vibe Coding: Build Your Dream School

Students imagine their dream school, then use AI to build an interactive app that solves a real school problem. They plan, prompt, test with a partner and improve their app, then pitch it to their school leader. Best after Build Your First Game Using AI.

What students will do

Six steps from problem to pitch.

The school leader wants to improve our school. What should our school of the future be like?

1
5 min

Find a problem

In pairs, students brainstorm problems and solutions for their dream future school and pick an idea to pitch.

2
5 min

Plan the app

Students choose how to pitch it: a game, an interactive map, a website or something else, and map it out on the planning template.

3
20 min

Watch the demo, then build

The class watches one prompt build live, reads the AI’s thought questions aloud, and talks about how the AI decided what to build. Then students write their first prompt and start building.

4
10 min

Test and give feedback

One student plays the school leader, tests their partner’s app against the success criteria, and gives feedback. Then swap.

5
10 min

Improve

Students turn the feedback into their next prompts.

6
10 min

Pitch

Groups present their app. Even better, share it with a real school leader or student council. Real builds, for real problems, for real audiences.

Students will learn to

  • Find a school problem and plan an AI solution
  • Break a larger project into steps
  • Write and refine prompts to build an app with AI
  • Question the AI’s output, test it, and improve it

Good to know

Before you start

Setup needed

  • Devices with internet and a modern browser
  • Access to imagi Edu for teacher and students
  • Lovable turned on for your classroom, with credits allocated
  • For IT: allow *.imagilabs.com, *.lovable.dev and *.lovable.app

Important notes

  • Students should never add real names or photos of people to their apps. The lesson reminds them.
  • Longer, more complex prompts use more credits. The demo covers how to prompt clearly.
  • Student prompts go through a safety filter before they reach the AI, and you can review flagged activity in the Safety Monitor.
  • Student and teacher data is not used to train AI models.
  • Unplugged option: students present their idea as a debate argument, board game, poster or speech instead.

Accommodations

  • imagi Edu runs in the browser, so students can use their device’s built-in zoom, high-contrast mode, screen reader or select-to-speak, and voice typing for prompts.
  • Pair students: one directs, one types, swapping after each prompt.
  • English learners and less confident writers can use the prompt frame or prompt in their home language.
  • Print the planning template in large print, or complete it digitally.

Works across subjects

Social Studies

Students take civic action in their own school, identifying a shared problem and proposing a solution to a decision-maker.

CTE

Students follow a real product design cycle (find a user need, prototype, test with users, improve) and explore careers like app designer, UX researcher, product manager and software developer.

Science and engineering

Defining a problem, developing solutions, optimizing the design (MS-ETS1).

ELA

Students plan and deliver a 30-second persuasive pitch using their app as a multimedia aid.

Standards alignment

AI Literacy competencies (AILit Framework)

Create 3: Direct generative AI systems to elicit feedback, refine results and support reflection.

Engage 3: Evaluate whether AI outputs should be accepted, revised or rejected.

Shape 2: Evaluate AI systems using defined criteria, expected outcomes, test cases and user feedback.

Also develops Create 2, Engage 2, Manage 3 and Manage 4.

CSTA (2026)

MS-ALG-PS-05: Use an AI tool to generate outputs that assist in solving a computational problem.

MS-SYS-IM-36: Collaborate to improve the design of a computing system to meet the needs of diverse users.

MS-ALG-IM-09: Evaluate which human-centered design principles are present or missing in an existing computing technology.

MS-SOC-ET-41: Evaluate how design decisions for an emerging technology influence user experiences across communities.

MS-SOC-ET-40: Evaluate when it is appropriate to use AI and other emerging technologies to solve a problem.

HS-ALG-PS-05: Evaluate AI-generated output to assess bias, accuracy and potential harms.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do students need to have done Build Your First Game first?

It’s recommended. That lesson covers the basics of prompting and iterating. Students who are new to AI building can still do this activity; start from the demo prompt and change one thing at a time.

How do students get access to Lovable?

Teachers create a classroom in imagi Edu, add students, and turn on Lovable for the class. Students join with the classroom access code and password their teacher shares. No signup or email is needed from students.

Can students use Lovable safely under COPPA?

imagi Edu is built for COPPA, FERPA and GDPR alignment. Students join through a teacher-created classroom, no student email, date of birth or contact information is collected, prompts are filtered before they reach the AI, and student data is not used to train AI models.

How many credits does this lesson use?

Plan for around 4 to 5 credits per student across the first build and improvement rounds. Teachers set each student’s limit from the 2,500 bonus credits.

What happens after December 31?

Bonus credits expire on December 31, 2026. Published projects stay viewable, and teachers keep their imagi Edu account.

What if my school blocks Lovable?

Ask your IT team to allow *.imagilabs.com, *.lovable.dev and *.lovable.app, and test access ahead of time. If that isn’t possible before your session, reach out to support@imagilabs.com.

What devices do I need?

Each student needs a desktop, laptop, Chromebook or tablet with an internet connection and an up-to-date browser. No downloads are required. Students can work in pairs on the same device.
